Taroudant, Morocco| Abdelillah Benkirane, Morocco’s Prime Minister head of the ruling Islamist Justice and Development party, confirmed that his primary role is not keeping a watchful eye on the way women dress “as long as they conform to the standards of decency and good manners,”
Mr. Benkirane said in a press conference, held lately with a number of Arab foreign journalists from Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, UAE, Amman, Lebanon and Sudan, that it is no longer sensible to interfere in other people’s private lives, and it runs counter to Islamic teachings.
“Times have changed compared to what they had been 50 years ago when family reluctantly allowed females to go to school. Today a female might easily turn into an air hostess to travel the world,” he explained
Mr. Benkirane rebutted all allegations saying that his government would try to “Islamize ” the society.
He added that correcting some methodologies and put the country back on the right track are among his government priorities.
“People didn’t vote in our favor to make them grow beards or wear the veil”, he stated.
“There had already been bearded and veiled people and there is no way to let society go back in time,” he added.
Besides, the PM seized the opportunity to deny links with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
He explained that each of the two parties adopt a different ideology.
Also, Mr. Benkirane didn’t’ miss the opportunity to talk about how Moroccans as Muslims believe and show so much love to their decent and Islamic Ancestry embodied by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Moreover, he added that all Moroccans have been devoted to setting a modern state while holding and sticking all the way to their Islamic identity.
