Agadir, Morocco–Torrential rains in Mozambique have killed at least 36 people and displaced nearly 70,000, according the United Nations.

The UN said in a statement: “a total of 26 persons have died in Gaza alone, with the nationwide death toll at 36,”

As the deadly flooding continues to rip across the southern part of the country, the Mozambique government, international agencies and neighboring South Africa are scrambling to help with the evacuations and ease the humanitarian crisis.

AFP said that their reporter on the scene saw thousands of displaced residents, who were stuck on road sides leading out of the devastated areas, were forced to eat grasshoppers after they had to to flee their homes.
