Morocco celebrates Eid el Mawlid en-Nabaoui

Agadir, Morocco–Eid el Mawlid en-Nabaoui, or the Celebration of the Prophet Muhammed’s Birth, is taking place today throughout the Islamic world. Traditionally, both Sunni and Shia scholars have approved the commemoration of Mawlid-un-Nabi except Wahabi Scholars.
In Muslim world, the majority of Islamic scholars and Muslims are in favor of celebrating the Mawlid event .They consider observing Mawlid a very inspiring moment where the history of mankind has changed with the birth of Mohamed, God’s last messenger.
This special day is seen as a praiseworthy transition that transported the Arabs from the dark labyrinths of ignorance to the enlightenment of Islam. Throughout much of the Sunni Muslim world including Morocco, this day is an official holiday. It is celebrated with street processions and other festivities.
Moroccan cities celebrate this memorable day, with its lively traditions, and sacred spirit in a unique way, by each deploying its vivacity and colors. Imbued with faith and great passion, homes and mosques are well decorated, and people live these sacred moments in a carnival manner.
Money and food are shared with the poor. Tales about the life of the prophet Muhammad are narrated with recitation of poetry by children. Scholars and poets, at mosques, keep reciting “Qaṣīda al-Burda Sharif”, the famous poem by the Arabic Sufi Busiri, whose well-chosen words are entirely recited in praise of Muhammad.
The day of Mawlid is also celebrated in other countries where Muslims have a presence, such as India, Britain, Russia, Canada, America and other parts of the world.
