Barcelona, Spain | It looks like the Argentine’s injury is not as bad as first thought and Messi could be fit enough to face the second leg of Barca’s quarter final clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi was substituted at half time with a hamstring problem after knocking in Barca’s first goal on 38 minutes. It was a great goal after David Beckham gifted the Argentine with a header.

The Barca medics initial fears were that Messi could be out for weeks but the club now reckons that the star could be back in time for the PSG clash at the Nou Camp next Wednesday.

A statement from FC Barcelona read: The club’s medical services have revealed that Messi’s hamstring injury will definitely rule him out of Saturday’s game against Mallorca at the Nou Camp.

His availability after that will depend on how the injury progresses.”

The Argentine also confirmed to his fans on Facebook that his injury wasn’t as serious as first thought. Messi said: “I will return soon. Thankfully it was not so serious.”

It’s a shame that Leo will not be present for Saturday’s game as his absence effectively brings to an end an incredible scoring streak. Leo Messi netted his 19th consecutive goal last week against Celta Vigo in the 2-2 draw.

This is good news for Barcelona as the Catalan club need the Argentine star more than ever in the final run up to the season’s close and the Champions League matches.
