Oklahoma City, U.S.A— American Senate approved Tuesday the nomination of Senator John Kerry to become the next secretary of state, establishing first key member of the American national security team in Obama’s second term.
The Boston Globe reported today that “The Senate is expected to act on the recommendation later Tuesday, representing the final hurdle for Kerry in his long quest to secure the post of America’s top diplomat”
On the other hand, last week Hillary Rodham Clinton congratulated John F. Kerry on his nomination to be the next Secretary of State and issued a press release on the matter, in which she said:
“I have been privileged to know John for many years and to call him a friend, colleague, and partner. He will bring decades of service to our country and deep experience in international affairs. The son of a career Foreign Service Officer, diplomacy is in his blood. As a decorated veteran, he knows what it takes to defend our nation and our values. As a leader in the Senate, he understands how to build coalitions and craft compromises. As a statesman respected around the world, he will be able to sustain and extend America’s global leadership”
Born on December 11, 1943 in Colorado, John Kerry at an early age volunteered to serve in the United States Navy. After graduating from Boston College Law School in 1976, he went to work as a top prosecutor in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, where he fought crime, fought for victims’ rights and created programs for rape counseling. Elected Lieutenant Governor in 1982 and then two years later, Kerry was elected to the United States Senate and he has won reelection four-times since.
In 2002, John Kerry ran for presidency for the United States, but he was nearly elected president in a close contest.
John Kerry is married to Teresa Heinz Kerry, and they have two daughters, three sons, and two grandchildren.
