Agadir, Morocco |Israeli police said Wednesday that they started an investigation of an apparent hate crime against an Arab woman in Jerusalem on Monday and said a policeman had been dismissed after praising the attack on Facebook.

The police said that they launched the probe after the NRG news website published the photographs of the assailed woman even if no complaint had been filed.

“No one has made a complaint but we are investigating the entire incident to understand what the motive behind the attack was,” AFP reported.

Reports spoke about young Jewish women attacking the Arab women accompanied by a man, who were both waiting for a train at a station near Kiryat Moshe, a neighborhood located at the entrance to Jerusalem.

According to Israeli website Haaretz, Dorit Jordan Dotan, a witness, “the victim was minding her own business when she was targeted by a young Jewish woman. The assailant was soon joined by others in the attack while several passengers and passersby looked on in indifference and did not intervene – including a security officer employed by the Jerusalem municipality,”

“The woman tried to fight them off but they shouted at her not to dare touch Jews and they continued as a group to attack her and even forcibly pulled off her head covering,” Dotan added.

On the other hand, Arab Israeli MP Ahmed Tibi told AFP that anti-Arab racism is growing.
