Oklahoma City, U.S.A | A group of Iranian women belonging to the Communist Party and the Organization against Violence on Women in Iran shed their tops on the streets of Stockholm, in Sweden, in a demonstration against Islam, Sharia and hijab, news agencies reported.
Their protest gathering came after the activists set up a Facebook page calling on people in Stockholm, Sweden, to join them in days before International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on March 8.
The Iranian women were seen topless during the protest with painted slogans on their bodies reading “My nudity is my protest” and “No to hijab.”
Also, in the video, a woman was heard shouting “Hijab is not my choice” and “Down with Islamic Republic of Iran,” using a microphone to project her message.
FEMEN, the Ukrainian women’s group known for using nudity in its demonstrations, posted photos of the Iranian women’s topless protest on its website in a show of solidarity.
“We want to remind you that on the 20th of December 2012 famous Egyptian activist Alia Al Mahdi, together with FEMEN made an antiislamist protest next to the Egyptian embassy in Stockholm,”said Femen statement
“FEMEN says to all womanhaters that in the historical battle “woman-Islam” women will win.” said the group.
It is worth mentioning that article 102 of Iran’s constitution indicates “women who appear on streets without the ‘Islamic hijab’ will be condemned to 74 strokes of the lash.”
