Ithaca, U.S.A| The head of Egypt Air, Captain Roshdi Zakaria, declared that the company will reassess all works of art shown on its planes in order not to offend any passengers.
The head of Egypt Air also commented on the incident involving the head of Shura Council, the upper house of Egyptian bicameral Parliament. Mr. Ahmed Fahmi, the head of Shura council, complained to the flight attendants about an Egyptian movie that was being shown during his flight from Khartoum to Cairo. The movie in question was “My Mother’s Groom”, starring artist Nelli.
Mr. Fahmi demanded that the movie be stopped because of an immoral scene. The film was stopped. However, no reaction from the other passengers was reported.
Captain Roshdi Zakaria also noted that the works of art are selected by a committee, and that they meet the censorship requirements.
Two weeks before the incident mentioned above, a group of members in the Moroccan parliament protested the showing of a movie onboard an Egypt Air flight that included “prolonged immoral scenes”.
The 18 representatives belonged to the Islamist ruling party Justice & Development.
The intellectual Saad El Eddine Ibrahim, the head of Ibn Khaldoun Center, who happened to be on the same flight, opposed stopping the movie, and he denounced the position of the Islamist representatives.
