Algerian-born Swedish Director Malik Bendjelloul won Oscar for Best Documentary

Oklahoma, U.S.A|The Algerian-born Swedish director Malik Bendjelloul won Oscar for best documentary for “Searching for Sugarman” during the 85th annual ceremony of Oscars Sunday in Hollywood.
“Searching for Sugar Man” tells, as it follows the efforts of Stephen “Sugar” Segerman and Craig Bartholowmew to find out if the American musician Rodriguez was, in fact, still alive, the story is told in the Oscar-nominated documentary, a singer-songwriter going by the name Rodriguez who released an album called “Cold Fact” which did not enough attention in 1970’s, making him return to life as a laborer in Detroit.
The documentary is done to create some suspense as it did not let viewers in on the secret until halfway through the film.
British producer Simon Chinn said as he accepted the award “That just about says everything about that man (Rodriguez) and his story that you want to know,”
“Thanks to one of the greatest singers ever, Rodriguez,” said Bendjelloul.
Rodriguez, Unbeknownst to him, was considered a star in South Africa.
Rodríguez was born in Detroit, Michigan to working-class immigrants who had come to the U.S. from Mexico in the 1920s.
Having a Bachelor of Philosophy, Rodriguez, or ‘Sixto’, sang about cruelties facing the inner city poor.
