Kenitra, Morocco| Moroccan television and film director Nabil Ayouch could not participate in a press conference held last Thursday in the suburb of Sidi Moumen in Casablanca  where he was forced to leave after protesters accused him of bias in portraying the people from from this shanty corner of Morocco’s largest city as “terrorists and homosexuals” in his latest film Ya Khayl Allah (God’s horses).

The protesters accused Nabil Ayouch, who was supposed to participate Thursday evening in a Symposium aimed at announcing the organization of Sidi Moumen Equestrian festival, of tarnishing the reputation of Sidi Moumen through his film and they threatened to organize a protest march as long as Ayouch and the organizers insist on presenting the film at the symposium.

“Sidi Moumen people are not terrorists or homosexuals as the director tried to portray them in his film and the real terrorists are government officials,” One of the protesters said.

The Moroccan Association for the Arts of Filming has issued a statement pointing out that “the film Ya Khayl Allah is far from being fair in portraying the reality and the real suffering of a large segment of Sidi Moumen population,”

“The director depicted the suburb’s population as people far away from civilization, ruled by a law of their own and as they have no culture, decency or consciousness to the extent that they would have sex in a very pervert way,” the statement added.

It is noteworthy that the movie Ya Khay Alleh is adopted from the novel Nojum Sidi Moumen (Stars of Sidi Moumen), which is inspired by the terrorist events that shook Casablanca in May 16, 2003 and happened that most of the perpetrators were from this poor neighborhood.

Kenitra, Morocco |The Moroccan actress Loubna Almastour gets the award for best female role in the International Festival of Theater in Figuig(south of Morocco).

The outstanding actress Lubna received the best female role in the first session of the International Festival of Theater in the play ‘Zwak Yetir’ by the director Abderrahmane El Idrissi in Figuig, south of Morocco

This amazing performance by the Moroccan actress Loubna provides a fine blend between popular and comedian style tending to present the inner psychological makeup of the persona with different representation as well as presenting the virtual and internal struggle for the human soul in meaningful and creative manifestations.

The play ‘zwak Ytir’ also received another prize award for best male role by Jawad Al-Nakhli plus Grand Prize jointly along with a group from Iraq.

Kenitra, Morocco|A number of other Moroccan films and others on Morocco will be presented in the framework of the eighth edition of the International Eastern Film Festival l between 12 and 21 April in Geneva.

According to the festival’s artistic director Tahir Houca, the year’s event is allocated for humor and music.

The honorary chairmanship was given to Edmund Charles Rowe President of the Goncourt Academy to screen a hundred films from twenty five years.

Among the Moroccan participating films there are “Moroccan in Paris” to Said Naciri, and “The Road to Kabul” to Ibrahim Ashkira, and “day and night” to Nawfal Brawi which also exists in the official competition.

In the context of short films, there are three Moroccan films: “Margil” age Mall Aldoarh and film “on the Road to Paradise” for Eddé Bnimana, and the movie “Colors Silence” for Amaa the El Moder.

In documentaries category, there is the film “Tinghir – Jerusalem the Echoes Melah- to Kamal Hishcar.

Morocco is also presented in other foreign productions, including the film “Rabat” to Jim Tahato and Victor Bontin and “Tea or Electricity” to Jerome Lemaire, and “Aazenzarn, Words’ Weapon” to Cristian Laure which highlights the path of a Sousi musical band along with documentaries about Gnawa music titled bodies and souls “and” Night of ownership” for Frank Kasnta.

This session is distinguished due to the presence of a number of Moroccan professionals among them the directors Said Naciri, Nofal Brawi, Kamal Hishcar and the artists Turia aloui and Fatima Ouachai along with the critic Abdul Ilah El Jaouhari.

Fez, Morocco| “Goodbye Morocco” movie by by French-Algerian Nadir Moknèche marked the first Francophone Film Week in Tunis, Tunisia, which will continue until March 31.

Goodbye Morocco tells the story of a single mother named Dounia who lives with a Serbian architect in Tangiers—a relationship denounced and was scandalous in the in the eyes of her Moroccan family.

The couple supervises a construction project, where earth-movers found Christian tombs dating back to the 4th century and decorated with ornate frescoes. Dounia and her lover started a lucrative but illegal trade in the hope of making some quick money so she, along with her serbian boyfriend and son, can leave Morocco. unfortunately, one of the construction workers disappears.

“Goodbye Morocco” is featured among other films on the occasion of the celebration of La Francophonie Week, the first edition of the Francophone Film Week will be held on March 26-31 in Tunis, Tunisia, by Goubantini Grouping (GG) in partnership with the French Institute of Tunisia (IFT) and the support of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (IOF), according to Tunisian News agency.
